A massive thank you to Apex Club of Ulverstone and New Mornings who continue to support our school community.
What an amazing fortnight we have had at West Ulverstone Primary. Last week our students were able to help paint our amazing new mural at the front of our school. The colour really pops as you drive into our driveway. Watching the students smile as they realised they were part of something so big and lasting was a pure pleasure to watch. Thank you to our school association for donating this to our school and to Melski McVee, our artist, who helped us create it.
Our front of the school looks great with the freshly painted lines in our car park. I absolutely love how wonderful our school is looking with the upgrades we have made this year.
It was fantastic to see so many people attending our Celebration of Learning last week. What an afternoon! The official opening began with two brilliant musical items. Thank you Mr French for the time and commitment he has given to the school choir this year. It was so great to see the art gallery in the hall with all student’s having work displayed. The afternoon looking at work in classrooms was a highlight for families as was the relaxed feel outside where our families played and ate. Thank you to:
- Coles for the sausage donation
- CFLC for the hire of the ice-cream truck
- Ulverstone Neighbourhood House for bringing your trailer of sports equipment
- Peter for running Target Golf
- Lydia for running basketball
- Chloe for representing The Smith Family
- Jasmine for representing NDIS
- Meagan, Leanne, Felicity and Stacey for representing CFLC
- Our amazing staff for organising and running the afternoon and
- Our brilliant students for sharing your learning and our school with your families
We also had a very successful athletics carnival on Thursday. Our students participated in this really well. Thank you to our fabulous parents who helped with the day, and to Miss Clarke and her helpers for running the day.
As we near towards the end of the term I would like to remind you to please keep an eye out for letters about end of year events happening for the school. It is a very busy and very exciting time of year.
Yours in partnership,
Sarah Crawford
This term older students have been introduced to some basic clay techniques such as pinch pot, coils, and how to attach pieces using score and slip, using air dry clay. Younger students have created objects and portraits using modelling clay.
Older students have also learned about landscape painting, including terms such as foreground, background, horizon line and perspective. Students have also learned about abstract painting and have had the opportunity to paint on their own canvas.
Interested students were given the opportunity to enter a range of art competitions including the Royal Launceston Show Student Art Prize and the Burnie Coastal Art Group Student Prize where WUPS students won awards in both.
Students have also participated in several Christmas card design competitions, including the Australia-wide Public Education Foundation design contest, with great success.
It was an honour for WUPS to be the selected school to submit designs for Premier Jeremy Rockcliff’s Christmas cards which will be circulated all over Australia. Winning student designs will be announced later this month.
It has been a busy year in the art room with students introduced to a wide range of materials and processes. I hope all students have enjoyed their creative experiences and continue to develop confidence in their art-making abilities.

Class Focus - Kinder - Prep - 1
It’s been a busy term for us in Kinder/Prep/1! We are starting to wrap up and celebrate our year and are busy preparing for the events in the coming weeks.
We have enjoyed lots of fun activities in the past term, including a visit from the Ulverstone Fire Brigade, the P/1’s joining Miss Cox’s class on their Burnie excursion, and the Kinders got to enjoy some Science by Georgia from Fairy Tales and Pirate Sails.
We wish all our families an enjoyable Summer break. Enjoy the sunny weather, spending time together and keep safe! Mrs Robertson, Miss Finch, Mrs Haywood, Sharon, Katie and Bethany.
During Term 4 we were fortunate to have two University of Tasmania students working in the Health and Physical Education learning area, while gaining experience as part of their journey to becoming HPE Teachers. We thank Mr Evan Lockwood and Miss Lydia Tippett for the work they did at WUPS and for the positive connections they made with staff and students.
Team Challenges
During HPE lessons students have been working on developing their teamwork and communication skills. Being able to work together and speak positively is a very important life skill and our students loved putting their learning in action with the practical team challenges.
Athletics Carnival and Tabloid Sports Day
Last week we held our annual Athletics Carnival, my first one here at WUPS. This year I included the Tabloid Sports rotations in hopes of offering many opportunities for students to engage and enjoy moving their bodies throughout the day. Thanks to our Groundsmen, parent helpers and everyone who assisted during the day. Every little bit helps in making sure these whole school events are successful and a great time for all.
It's hard to believe my first year at WUPS has almost finished, I look forward to working with students and the wider school community in 2024.
